Sunny Deol’s latest cinematic venture, Gadar 2, continues its unstoppable journey at the box office, setting new benchmarks on its fourth day. With an impressive weekend haul of Rs 134 crore, the movie’s momentum remained unwavering as it raked in an astounding estimated sum of Rs 39 crore on Monday, as reported by industry tracker Sacnilk.

The film’s cumulative box office earnings now stand at an impressive Rs 173 crore, a feat that has exceeded the expectations of many trade pundits. While Gadar 2 was anticipated to make an impact, the magnitude of its success has taken the industry by surprise. Box Office India noted that Monday’s collections are poised to set an “all-time record,” a remarkable achievement considering that even during holidays, major films struggle to cross the 30 crore net mark.

With its phenomenal Monday performance, Gadar 2 is poised for a momentous Tuesday, coinciding with Independence Day. The film is geared up to amass a projected Rs 55 crore on August 15, propelling its total earnings to Rs 230 crore in just five days, as per Sacnilk’s insights. This impressive stride forward occurs despite the competition from Akshay Kumar’s OMG2, which has somewhat affected Gadar 2’s screen presence.
Gadar 2 is now on track to challenge the lifetime collection of Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, currently holding the title of Bollywood’s highest-grossing film with a total of Rs 524 crore (Hindi nett). Eminent Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh is optimistic that Gadar 2 will effortlessly join the coveted Rs 200 crore club within its opening week, buoyed by substantial ticket sales on Independence Day.
Taran Adarsh conveyed his view through a tweet, stating, “It’s crystal clear by now – if #Gadar2 was a solo release, NOT clashing with another #Hindi film – it would’ve easily added another ₹30 cr in its weekend total.”
Even international magazine Deadline has acknowledged Gadar 2’s triumphant box office run, suggesting that global entertainment options like Gadar 2 and Rajinikanth’s Jailer should be highlighted as Hollywood grapples with the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
This sequel to Gadar Ek Prem Katha, a 2001 blockbuster, unfolds against the backdrop of the 1971 Bangladesh-Pakistan partition. Directed by Anil Sharma, the movie stars Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma in pivotal roles.
Notably, Gadar 2 marks a watershed moment in Sunny Deol’s four-decade-long career, emerging as his biggest hit. It is also the first film to join the coveted Rs 100 crore club in his filmography. Such is the demand for the film that additional early morning and late-night screenings were introduced in many parts of Northern India by exhibitors.
Together with Rajinikanth’s Jailer, Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2, and Chiranjeevi’s Bhola Shankar, Gadar 2 collectively contributed over Rs 390 crore to India’s theatrical box office revenue, marking the highest cumulative earnings in the last century. According to a joint statement by the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) and Producers Guild of India, the film attracted over 2.10 crore moviegoers, witnessing the highest number of admissions in the past decade.
